Let me tell you this was a bitterly cold day. It might look like a great wintery scene down at Oakwell but I needed two days to thaw out after watching this one. Something you just don't see these days. Not just snow on a football pitch but just snow! After being served up some great football just a few years before we then had to endure some real mediocre matches. That said there were still a couple of good Barnsley players around at the time including goalkeeper Baker, centre back Paul Futcher, winger Gordon Owen and one player that didn't play on the day utility man Stuart Gray. The latter could play anywhere, a real quaility footballer. How ever he ended up at Oakwell I'll never know.

Barnsley FC's memorable League Cup victory of 1981 at Oakwell. The Reds had already knocked out first division teams Brighton and Swansea City in the previous rounds. The atmosphere in Oakwell was electric and it was standing room only back then apart from the upper tier of the old West Stand. A fantastic night for the Barnsley supporters and if you were there you will enjoy seeing this action again. There's a striking similarity too to Ayloytt's winner and the one which saw the Reds beat Chelsea in the FA cup last year.

Edited footage of Barnsley FC from the 1980's when the heroes from Oakwell included the likes of Ronnie Glavin and Trevor Aylott. Barnsley's promotion side of the 1996-97season played some great football to reach the Premier League. Make no mistake this 80's team could be just as entertaining and it's a shame that they couldn't quite reach the old first division as it was then. Players like Glavin, Aylott, Banks and Barrowclough could bring a spark to the current Barnsley team such was their quality. Enjoy this old footage of the Golden Years.
